Yoga with Anna Axlund CPT

Anna Axlund, CPT

has many talents and areas of interest in the world of physical fitness.  She is a personal trainer and yoga instructor who specializes in the area of Corrective Exercise.

What is Corrective Exercise?

Corrective Exercise

is about exercising with purpose.

It's about choosing the right exercises for your posture, activity level and personal health history. Also knowing when and how to progress the exercises and making sure they are performed with proper technique and posture.

The goal of Corrective Exercise is to identify postural and movement imbalances and develop an exercise program to correct them.  The focus is on movements that are designed to create balance, stability and/or mobility in areas that are not functioning properly.

She has a series of assessments that she conducts to identify these imbalances and prescribes specific exercises to correct them. She uses a variety of exercises and tools to aid in this process, such as; foam rolling, yoga, body weight exercises, resistance bands, free weights and more.

In everyday life we are constantly doing activities that create imbalances in our bodies. Some examples are; sleeping on one side, sitting for long periods of time, repetitive movements at work, or participating in sports like tennis and golf. Our bodies slowly develop strengths and weaknesses that eventually lead to asymmetry in our posture and movement. These posture and movement imbalances can lead to unnecessary wear and tear on our muscles and joints and make us more susceptible to chronic pain and injuries.

Anna is available on Wednesday here at Vancouver Massage to provide a full assessment.  She normally charges $75 for this service but she is offering an introductory promotion for my clients of only $30!  The assessment takes 1 hour and you walk away with a much better idea of how your body can function more optimally with the information she provides.

Anna's philosophy:"I believe that good health and happiness can be found with even the smallest of positive changes and all good things in life are worth working for.  With honesty, patience and perseverance, reward will follow.  To me, Yoga is not about self-improvement, but about self-exploration and self-acceptance."
